Green vs Bright Tents: What Colour Works Best for Wild Camping?

By JJames giugno 21, 2026

Tent colour matters more than many beginners think. For UK wild camping, muted colours such as green, grey and brown are usually preferred because they reduce visual impact and blend into the landscape.

A discreet tent supports low-impact camping. It is especially suitable for moorland, hills and woodland edges where bright colours can stand out from a long distance. Responsible wild camping is about leaving no trace, and visual impact is part of that.

Bright tents have advantages too. Orange, red or yellow shelters are easier to spot in poor visibility and may be useful in emergencies. They can also feel brighter inside on dull days.

For most UK wild campers, a muted tent colour is the best everyday choice. If safety visibility is your priority, consider carrying bright clothing or an emergency shelter instead.
