Lanshan 1 vs 2 vs 2 Pro vs 1 Pro: Which Tent?

The Lanshan family is one of the most popular ultralight tent ranges in the UK, but the names are confusing. Lanshan 1, Lanshan 2, Lanshan 2 Pro and Lanshan 1 Pro look similar, yet they differ in weight, doors, layers and price.

This guide compares the four models side by side, then explains who each one is for. If you want the short answer first, start with the table below.

Lanshan 1 or Lanshan 2 — which should you buy?

Quick answer: Choose the Lanshan 1 for solo trips and the Lanshan 2 for two people. The Lanshan 1 weighs 930 g and costs from £93; the Lanshan 2 weighs 1,150 g, has two doors and costs from £106. The Pro versions are lighter but use a 1.5-layer design.

Quick answer: which Lanshan should you buy?

  • Solo on a budget: Lanshan 1 — 930 g, one door, from £93.
  • Solo and counting grams: Lanshan 1 Pro — 666–690 g, one door, £119.
  • Two people, best value: Lanshan 2 — 1,150 g, two doors, from £106.
  • Two people, lightest: Lanshan 2 Pro — 865–915 g, two doors, £124.

Weight: how much do you save with the Pro?

The standard tents are already light, but the Pro versions are noticeably lighter:

  • Lanshan 1 → Lanshan 1 Pro: 930 g down to 666–690 g, a saving of about 240–264 g.
  • Lanshan 2 → Lanshan 2 Pro: 1,150 g down to 865–915 g, a saving of about 235–285 g.

That is roughly the weight of a water bottle or a day of food. For a weekend, you may not notice it. For a long-distance route, it matters.

The saving is not free. The Pro models use a 1.5-layer construction, which removes the separate inner tent of the standard models. That saves weight and packed size, but changes condensation and interior space. Read the next two sections before choosing.

Doors and vestibules: one or two?

The Lanshan 1 and Lanshan 1 Pro have one door and one vestibule. The Lanshan 2 and Lanshan 2 Pro have two doors and two vestibules.

For solo use, one door is enough. For couples, two doors are a real quality-of-life feature: each person can get in and out without climbing over the other, and each side gets its own gear space. That is one reason the Lanshan 2 is such a popular couples’ tent.

2-layer vs 1.5-layer: condensation and weather

The standard Lanshan 1 and Lanshan 2 are 2-layer tents: a separate inner tent and fly. The Pro models are 1.5-layer: the inner is largely integrated with the fly.

In wet, humid UK conditions, a 2-layer tent is usually more forgiving. The separate inner keeps condensation away from you and gives a bit more protection if the fly is wet. A 1.5-layer tent is lighter and packs smaller, but condensation can be more noticeable, especially in still, damp weather.

Neither design is “better” in every situation. If you mostly camp in the UK and want an easy, forgiving shelter, the standard Lanshan 2 is the safer choice. If you are an experienced backpacker counting grams on longer trips, the 2 Pro makes more sense.

Seam sealing: the standard Lanshan 1 and 2 are described as factory seam-sealed. The Pro models are 1.5-layer and should be seam-sealed before use in wet weather. Check the product page for the current version and follow the instructions.

3-season vs 4-season: what actually changes?

All four models are available with 3-season and 4-season inner options. The 4-season inner uses less mesh and more solid fabric, which adds warmth and reduces drafts. It is not a full expedition tent, and it does not turn a summer shelter into a winter mountaineering tent.

For most UK backpacking from spring to autumn, the 3-season inner is the better choice: more ventilation, less condensation, and a more comfortable temperature range when the weather is mild. Choose the 4-season inner if you sleep cold, camp in exposed places, or use the tent outside the summer season.

Which Lanshan is best for the UK?

UK conditions reward good pitching and ventilation more than a headline weight. A trekking-pole tent needs a solid pitch and suitable pegs; wind and rain will find any weakness.

  • Solo, UK 3-season: Lanshan 1 is the value pick; Lanshan 1 Pro if you want the lightest solo shelter and accept 1.5-layer trade-offs.
  • Couples, UK 3-season: Lanshan 2 is the best all-round value; Lanshan 2 Pro if both of you are weight-focused and experienced.
  • Cold or exposed trips: choose the 4-season inner and pitch carefully; none of these tents is a true winter expedition shelter.

Lanshan 2 vs Lanshan 2 Pro: which is worth it?

The Lanshan 2 is the better value. It costs less, has two doors, and its 2-layer design is more forgiving in condensation. At 1,150 g it is still a light tent for two people.

The Lanshan 2 Pro saves 235–285 g and packs smaller. If you are hiking long distances, fastpacking, or counting every gram, that matters. If you are doing weekend camps and want the easier tent, the standard Lanshan 2 is the smarter buy.

Lanshan 1 vs Lanshan 1 Pro: which is worth it?

The Lanshan 1 is the budget solo option. It is heavier than the 1 Pro, but it is cheaper and uses the more forgiving 2-layer design.

The Lanshan 1 Pro saves about 240–264 g and is the lightest tent in the range. It suits experienced solo backpackers who want a small pack and accept 1.5-layer condensation. If you are new to trekking-pole tents, the standard Lanshan 1 is the easier start.

FAQ

Can the Lanshan 1 fit two people?

No. The Lanshan 1 is a one-person tent. For two people, choose the Lanshan 2 or Lanshan 2 Pro.

Do I need trekking poles for a Lanshan?

Yes. The Lanshan models are trekking-pole shelters. You need two adjustable poles (or suitable support poles) to pitch them. Check the product page for the recommended pole length.

Is the Lanshan 2 Pro worth the extra cost over the Lanshan 2?

If you are weight-focused and experienced, yes. It saves 235–285 g and packs smaller. If you want the easier, more forgiving tent for UK weekends, the standard Lanshan 2 is better value.

Can I use a Lanshan in winter?

The 4-season inner adds warmth and reduces drafts, but these are still lightweight trekking-pole shelters. They are suitable for cold-weather camping with careful pitching, not for exposed winter mountaineering.

Which Lanshan is best for a couple?

The Lanshan 2 is the best value for most couples. The Lanshan 2 Pro is the lightweight upgrade if both people are happy with a 1.5-layer tent.

FAQ

Lanshan 1 Pro vs 2 Pro — which one?

The 1 Pro is a solo tent at 666–690 g; the 2 Pro is a two-person tent at 865–915 g with two doors. Choose by capacity first, then weight and budget.

Verdict

There is no single “best” Lanshan. The right choice depends on how many people are sleeping, how much weight you care about, and whether you want the more forgiving 2-layer design.
